Position the Shelf

Hold the shelf up to the desired location on the wall. This doesn’t need to be exact yet. Lightly mark the approximate top and sides of the shelf using a pencil.

Locate the Studs

Using a stud finder, locate all available wall studs behind the drywall within the shelf’s marked area. Mark each stud location with a pencil.

Align the Wooden Bracket

Take the wooden mounting bracket (with pre-drilled holes) and hold it up against the wall, within the marked shelf outline. Align the bracket so that as many holes as possible fall over the marked studs. Use a pencil to mark through the bracket holes onto the wall.

Drill Pilot Holes

Using a 4 mm (or 5/32") drill bit, drill pilot holes where your pencil marks are.

  • For holes aligned with studs: drill directly into the wall.

  • For holes not aligned with studs: use drywall anchors to ensure strong support.
